Burning of the Ships Day

May 14, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free

The historic British Raid on Essex comes to life in Essex Village and at the Connecticut River Museum. The Sailing Masters of 1812 Fife & Drum Corps’ annual parade kicks off at Essex Town Hall, they march down Main Street to perform a short “muster” and commemoration ceremony at water’s edge. At the conclusion of the parade, activities will take place on the Connecticut River Museum lawn and docks including children’s activities and historic re-enactors and colonial weaponry demonstrations, all honoring the 1814 attack that destroyed the privateer vessels in Essex.  All lawn activities are free to the public.
