CENTERBROOK ARCHITECTS LECTURE SERIES PRESENTS DR. CHUCK BENSON WITH “THE TIMELESSNESS OF JAPANESE ARCHITECTURE – SHINTO AND BUDDHIST MASTERPIECES OF DESIGN”

October 25, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

FREE

The Essex Library is honored to welcome back Architectural Historian Chuck Benson as part of its Centerbrook Architects Lecture Series on Friday, October 25th at 7 p.m. in The Cube at Centerbrook’s offices. Benson will present an illustrated talk that focuses on travelling to ancient Japan architecturally – and unlocking the secrets of its two great architectural traditions – Shintoism and Buddhism. From the Ise Shrine for Shintoism to the Buddhist Temples of Horyuji, Todaiji, and Yakushiji, he’ll explore this iconic and surprisingly modern tradition of design and architecture that’s had a profound effect not only upon its own people – but on modern architecture in the west as well.

Chuck Benson has been teaching the history of art, architecture, and design for over 30 years. Chuck is an instructor for the Fine Arts Center’s Bemis School of Art at Colorado College and is an occasional architectural consultant with various local architectural firms.

This program is free and open to the public. For more information, or to register, please call the Essex Library at 860-767-1560. The Essex Library is located at 33 West Avenue in Essex.
