Temperance and Prohibition Lecture with Curator Amy Trout

July 17 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Tuesday, July 17, 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm

Join Amy for a lecture on temperance, prohibition, and the effects of the reform movements. Temperance organizations such as the Sons of Temperance and the Cold Water Army proliferated throughout America during the 1840s and 50s. Throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries, ineffectual temperance laws (state and local) sprang up as social, political, and economic issues surrounding alcohol continued. Culminating in the passage of the Volstead Act in 1919, better known as “Prohibition” – the fight against alcohol finally became law.
