  • Bikes For Kids

    Bikes For Kids is a Connecticut based non-profit organization that brings smiles to children one bike at a time. Bikes For Kids is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1989. Our volunteers collect, repair, and safety test donated used bicycles. The refurbished bicycles, along with new helmets, are given away to individuals of all ages and needs. Most donated bicycles remain in Connecticut, but some have reached children in other states and countries. More than 1,000 bicycles are given away annually. Requests for bicycles come from local and state social service organizations, churches, schools, non-profits, and individuals. 19,000 bicycles have been donated to date!

  • Child and Family Agency

    Our programs support children’s mental health, children’s physical healthcare, the prevention of child abuse, the treatment of family violence, teen pregnancy, parent education, child guidance, and childcare. With a heritage that dates from 1809, Child and Family has grown to become the largest non-profit children’s social service provider in southeastern Connecticut. Our services are available to all residents of New London and Middlesex counties. Child and Family is funded by the State of Connecticut Department of Children and Families as a child guidance clinic and is licensed by the Department of Public Health as a child care facility and as a community health care center. Over 650 men and women give generously of their time and talent through caring for children, fundraising events, and educational services.   • Essex Community Fund

    Since 1949, Essex Community Fund has been fundraising and distributing donations yearly to local non-profits with programs geared at serving the needs of our residents.  ECF also works with others to create programming and solutions to challenging situations facing our residents..  Essex Community Fund is committed to making a difference in our community. We encourage you to take part in our programming, volunteering opportunities and to meet the many incredible non- profit organizations that serve Essex, Centerbrook and Ivoryton.

  • Essex Garden Club

    It began in 1952, the Essex Garden Club established an entity and became a member of the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut. Initially, a “white glove”, formal group of community-minded women set goals to enhance the villages of Essex, Ivoryton and Centerbrook and in so doing, created an organization that has over the years become an integral part of our community.   The white gloves and dresses have given way to blue jeans, and men have joined the membership ranks of the club, the fundamental goals remain the same: civic improvement and beautification of our town, development of education and conservation initiatives to benefit both the membership and the broader public, foster programs within the school system to enhance awareness of our natural resources and grant scholarships to those younger people who demonstrate an interest in environmental sciences.   • Essex Lions Club

    The Essex Lions club has been serving the communities of Essex, Centerbrook and Ivoryton since 1950.  More recently the Essex Lions merged with the Westbrook Lions Club and are now providing services to the town of Westbrook as well.  The services provided are based on the needs of the community and are constantly changing ranging from providing eye exams and glasses to persons that cannot afford it to doing yard work, giving rides to Dr.’s appointments, building and maintaining park buildings, donations to food banks, Christmas gifts to needy families, disaster assistance and scholarships.  Essex Lions also contributes to Lions Clubs International Foundation which funds grants, many of which have come back to Connecticut such as assistance for families affected by SuperStorm Sandy.  More recently we have started doing Pre-school eye screenings which provide early diagnosis for eye diseases which later are many times misinterpreted as learning disabilities.  One of Read more [...]

  • Essex Veterans Memorial Hall

    The once Centerbrook Schoolhouse,  Essex Veterans Memorial Hall was established in 1946 with a continued purpose to provide refreshment, entertainment and social diversion of its members and guests as well as provide a meeting place, club rooms and equipment for the furthering of community activities and civic interests. Essex Veterans Memorial Hall has an inherent responsibility to financially or otherwise assist veterans, their families and the community. We have many events and activities throughout the year and welcome new members and patrons. Membership Meetings occur September through June on the first Sunday of the month at 1PM.
