BY CAR

From New York and the Connecticut Shoreline, Interstate 95:

Take I-95 North or South to Exit 69.

Take CT Route 9 North to Exit 3.

Take a left at the exit onto Route 154 (Middlesex Turnpike).

For Essex Village: Take a right at the first intersection onto West Avenue.

For Centerbrook and Ivoryton: Continue straight on Route 154.

 

From Hartford, Interstate 91 and CT Route 9:

Take I-91 South to Exit 22S, CT Route 9 South.

Take CT Route 9 South to Exit 3.

For Essex Village: Take a left at the exit onto Route 154 and then the first left onto West Avenue.

For Centerbrook and Ivoryton: Take a right onto Route 154.

 

BY TRAIN

With Old Saybrook Station just a few miles away, traveling to Essex by rail comes with many options.  Amtrak runs daily train service between Boston and New York while Shore Line East commuter rail connects to local towns between New Haven and New London.  Once you have arrived at Saybrook Station, call for taxi service.  Essex Taxi: 860-767-7433. BY BOAT

Many visitors to Essex arrive by sea, finding a safe, scenic harbor and transient slips at Brewer Marinas in the heart of Essex Village. For more information call 860-767-0001.

 

Brewer Dauntless Marina

The Marina can be reached by turning west at Red #26 and proceeding through the southern fairway marked by yellow cans. The Marina is just north of the channel. You will notice the fuel dock, which is marked by orange fender balls and the very noticeable Brewer oval. Call on VHF channel 68 for assistance.

 

Brewer Essex Island Marina & Brewer Dauntless Shipyard

Proceed up the Connecticut River past marker “R26” located in the vicinity of the Essex mooring field. On your port side, you will note two sets of yellow channel (local) markers, the northern pair marking the entrance channel. Proceed westward in the northern and hail for assistance on VHF channel 9, prior to entering the inner channel.

 

BY AIR

Visitors from afar have their choice of air travel destinations. For commercial airline service, Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks is 51 miles north and is used by most domestic carriers. Tweed New Haven Airport is 30 miles west and offers regional service by American Airlines.  For private charter service, Chester Airport is just a 10 minute drive while Groton Airport is a 20 minutes away.
