FREEAs part of the Essex Library’s 2021 Laptop Series, made possible by a generous grant from Guilford Savings Bank and the Community Foundation of Middlesex County, professional genealogist Bryna O’Sullivan will conduct a 3-part series of workshops on using free online genealogy resources. These hybrid workshops will be held in the Essex Library (seating is limited) and on Zoom on Saturdays, October 9, 23 and November 6 at 1 p.m.
Part 1: Want to dive into genealogy research but on a limited budget? The website FamilySearch is the perfect place to get started. Join us for an introduction to this free site, which includes access to records, how to guides, classes, and more.
Part 2: Whether you’re looking for Irish Catholic records or Connecticut estate papers, the diverse collections of Ancestry can help your research. Join us to learn how to navigate the Ancestry site, whether you’re using the paid subscription at home or the collections available for free through the library or ResearchITCT.
Part 3: For genealogists with Connecticut ancestors or Connecticut residents researching family from out of state, the Connecticut State Library is a priceless resource – and you don’t need to be onsite to access all of their material. Join us for an introduction to the online resources of the Connecticut State Library, including the databases that can help document your historic home, locate records of your ancestor’s World War I service and more.
The program will be presented by Bryna O’Sullivan of Charter Oak Genealogy. These workshops are free and open to the public. Registration is required.
