Alzheimers Caregivers Support Group Resumes In-Person Meetings At Essex Library
June 8, 2021 @ 5:00 pm
An event every month that begins at 5:00 pm on day Second of the month, repeating until June 15, 2022
The Essex Library is delighted to announce that the Alzheimer’s Caregivers Support Group, facilitated by Deborah Griswold, is returning to in-person meetings in April. The Group will meet in the Library’s Program Room from 5-6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 12 and will continue meeting on the second Tuesday of every month at 5 p.m. Attendance is free and open to all; no registration required.
Caring for a person with Alzheimer’s disease can be challenging. To help people who care for those with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, the Alzheimer’s Association Connecticut Chapter facilitates about 90 support groups around the state. The Essex Library is honored to collaborate with AACC in hosting a monthly caregivers support group which offers caregivers a place to share, learn and feel welcomed. People talk about their experiences and offer suggestions to deal with topics including medical, legal, behavioral and financial problems. The trained group facilitator is there to listen, help guide the conversation and to provide information about resources in the community. This support group is FREE and open to the public.
The Essex Library also lends memory kits which contain a variety of arts and crafts materials, music CDs, DVDs, conversation cards, books, and fidget toys for people living with dementia or Alzheimer’s. These kits are generously supported by a grant from the Community Foundation of Middlesex County.
