Author Talk with Betsy Lerner and The Bridge Ladies
July 14, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
FreeBetsy Lerner’s mother Roz has played bridge with the same four women for more than fifty years. Betsy grew up with these women without knowing their stories, including her mother’s. Lerner’s book, The Bridge Ladies, is a humorous, poignant recounting of learning about her mother by learning to play bridge. “What began as a project of friendly curiosity soon became a cherished ritual.” The memoir has garnered universal praise including a starred review from Publishers Weekly. Lerner is also the author of The Forest for the Trees and Food and Loathing. She received an MFA from Columbia University in Poetry and was the recipient of a Thomas Wolfe Poetry Prize, an Academy of American Poets Poetry Prize, and was one of PEN’s Emerging Writers. Join us as we welcome Betsy Lerner at the Essex Library on Thursday, July 14th at 7 p.m. Books for purchase and signing will be available from R.J. Julia at the event.
Admission is free and open to all. Please call the Library at 860-767-1560 to register or for more information. The Essex Library is located at 33 West Avenue in Essex.
