Design and Sew a Fantasy Witch/Ren Faire Hat Ages 14-Adult

October is the time to add to your fantasy or fun wardrobe with a bespoke one of a kind hat designed and sewn by you!  Choose from several options to design and sew your own hat with a witchy, cottagecore, ren faire or steampunk aesthetic.

This is NOT a learn to sew workshop – you need to have prior machine sewing experience.

All materials fabric, interfacings and bindings are provided including some finishing trims such as ribbons, flowers, steampunk charms and embroidery floss.

Bring your own machine with black thread and bobbins or let us know if you need to use one of our machines. Machine availability is limited. A basic sewing kit which should include fabric scissors, pins and a measuring tape is also required for the workshop.

Jillian Nielsen began sewing and designing at a young age, attending fashion design programs in Connecticut and NYC, attended Bard College at Simon’s Rock and has a Certificate in Costume Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology. She was the equine costume designer for the CT Opera Company’s “Carmen” and she is currently a costume designer for “Listen to Me”, a new interpretation of Gertrude Stein’s work. She has taught Spectrum Art Gallery’s Fashion Week for two years and has her fiber and jewelry creations for sale at Spectrum Art Gallery in Centerbrook.

Elaine has always sewed, knitted and crocheted learning from her mother and her grandmother as a child. She enjoys working with fabric and fiber to create unique colorful garments, handbags and toys that bring her joy and a smile.

After 30 years as an environmental planner she can now enjoy playing with her stash of yarn and fabric, being creative and inspired by her garden, the colors of nature, and her horse, Isla Rose.

Elaine’s work is currently exhibited at Spectrum Gallery in Centerbrook, Connecticut.
