Essex Annual Shad Bake 2019

The Rotary Club of Essex and the Connecticut River Museum have paired up again to bring you a classic Connecticut Spring tradition: the Shad Bake.  Now in its 61st year, this is the quintessential New England shoreline tradition.  Yankee Magazine has called it one of the “Top 20 Summer Events.”

Nailed up on wooden planks around a bonfire, the shad takes on a smoky flavor and is accompanied by plenty of sides, as well as pie from Lyman’s Orchards.  Programs on the history of the Connecticut Shad fishery will be offered throughout the day. Not a fan of shad?  Barbecue chicken will be available as well!  Children are served hot dogs for their meal.  As always, beer, wine, and nonalcoholic beverages are available at a cash bar. A shuttle service will run to the Museum from Town Hall and the Pratt House to ease parking congestion.
