Staging The Color Purple with Todd Underwood

As part of Essex Library’s month-long celebration of Alice Walker’s The Color Purple in all of its forms – book, musical, and movie – we are engaging in a discussion and Q&A with Todd Underwood, Assistant Artistic Director at Ivoryton Playhouse and Director of their fall musical, The Color Purple. On Tuesday, September 19, at 7:00 pm, we will hear from Mr. Underwood about the process of putting a play onstage, the difference in how a story is told/received onstage versus on screen or in literature, the benefits and challenges of producing a play that is also such an iconic movie and book, and more, including answering audience questions.
