DESCRIPTION:This class provides step-by-step instruction for those seeking the fundamentals of watercolor painting. Class includes demos and structured exercises. Participants learn color mixing\, dark and light and basic color theory principles. Different brush stroke techniques are addressed for specific effects i.e. wet on wet & dry stubble applications. Participants paint from still life setups and/or photo references from home. Everyone is encouraged to work on an ongoing painting at home to help solidify techniques learned in class. This piece may be brought into class on the last day for an open critique session. Instructor will work with you at your level even if you have taken watercolor in the past. Material list available upon registration. \nChris Kunze graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Painting/Illustration. He has had a long & successful career in Advertising and Promotion. His illustrations and designs have been used in books\, magazines\, newspapers\, product packaging and logo design. \nChris’ fine art has always remained important throughout his career as a commercial artist. \nHe has had many solo and group shows in New York City\, Westchester County and lower Connecticut\, showcasing his oil paintings\, watercolors and illustrations. Chris was part of an ongoing show at the Arthur Kalaher Fine Art in Sag Harbor\, NY from 2011-2019. In 2018 he had a solo show of his watercolors at Teatown Lake Reservation. \nIn 2019 Chris began his participation in Arthouse.NYC’s “Healthcare Heroes Show”. \nHe has memorialized several healthcare workers who lost their lives during the height of the Covid pandemic. SUMMARY:Pastels Continue
DESCRIPTION:In this class learn to create layers of soft pastels to build up a recognizable image or object.  Blocking in values from light to dark and understanding light to hard application on paper.  In the beginning of class\, simple still life set ups will be used i.e. two pieces of fruit in a bowl\, etc. The light source and an investigation of color ranges that can be applied to any given object will also be explored.  There will be demonstrations of techniques that will help all levels.  Pastels are a wonderful opportunity for those who want to continue to hone their drawing skills with the new dimension of color.  Finally\, fixative spraying will be reviewed including how many layers are necessary.  The last two classes will focus on a more complicated still life set up in an effort to create a completed piece of artwork. Instructor will work individually with participants with more pastel experience.  Material list available upon registration. \nChris Kunze graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Painting/Illustration. DESCRIPTION:Spectrum Art Gallery and Artisans Store of Centerbrook\, Connecticut presents Nature Up Close. Discover new and original artwork that showcases the the joys of Summer and as a result look closely at our gardens\, emerging insects\, flowers and trees highlighting closeup images that engage us in these discoveries.  At Spectrum\, we explore this by showcasing the work of established and emerging artists with original paintings\, mixed media\, and photography. The Open Reception for Nature Close Up is Friday\, May 16 from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. SUMMARY:Pastels Continue
DESCRIPTION:In this class learn to create layers of soft pastels to build up a recognizable image or object.  Blocking in values from light to dark and understanding light to hard application on paper.  In the beginning of class\, simple still life set ups will be used i.e. two pieces of fruit in a bowl\, etc. The light source and an investigation of color ranges that can be applied to any given object will also be explored.  There will be demonstrations of techniques that will help all levels.  Pastels are a wonderful opportunity for those who want to continue to hone their drawing skills with the new dimension of color.  Finally\, fixative spraying will be reviewed including how many layers are necessary.  The last two classes will focus on a more complicated still life set up in an effort to create a completed piece of artwork. Instructor will work individually with participants with more pastel experience.  Material list available upon registration. \nChris Kunze graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Painting/Illustration. He has had a long & successful career in Advertising and Promotion. His illustrations and designs have been used in books\, magazines\, newspapers\, product packaging and logo design. Chris’ fine art has always remained important throughout his career as a commercial artist. He has had many solo and group shows in New York City\, Westchester County and lower Connecticut\, showcasing his oil paintings\, watercolors and illustrations. Chris was part of an ongoing show at the Arthur Kalaher Fine Art in Sag Harbor\, NY from 2011-2019.  In 2018 he had a solo show of his watercolors at Teatown Lake Reservation. \nIn 2019 Chris began his participation in Arthouse.NYC’s “Healthcare Heroes Show”. He has memorialized several healthcare workers who lost their lives during the height of the Covid pandemic. These oil portraits were given to their families and were on view at the Big Plaza Screen in New York City. Teaching is a passion that has come to the forefront in the past 15 years for Chris. He has been teaching a plethora of subjects among them drawing\, oil painting\, watercolors\, and more at local Westchester art schools.  He is currently teaching at Scarsdale Adult School. DESCRIPTION:This class provides step-by-step instruction for those seeking the fundamentals of watercolor painting. Class includes demos and structured exercises. Participants learn color mixing\, dark and light and basic color theory principles. Different brush stroke techniques are addressed for specific effects i.e. wet on wet & dry stubble applications. Participants paint from still life setups and/or photo references from home. Everyone is encouraged to work on an ongoing painting at home to help solidify techniques learned in class. This piece may be brought into class on the last day for an open critique session. Instructor will work with you at your level even if you have taken watercolor in the past. SUMMARY:Introduction to Zentangles
DESCRIPTION:Zentangle turns drawings into artistic designs while reducing stress and improving focus.  Learn hand to eye coordination\, manual dexterity\, problem solving and turn mistakes into positives to enhance your creativity.  Cost is $40 + $10 Material Fee\, \nParticipants create 1\, 2 or 3 Zentangle “Tiles”.  Tiles are 4X4 inch smooth white card-stock.  Learn to draw 12-15 basic and specific “tangles” or unique patterns on the tiles.  Copies of the book “Zentangle Basics” will be provided as well as pencils\, card-stock\, assorted permanent markers\, mini canvases and miniature wooden easels. \nThe final Zentangle piece will be drawn on a white or black 4X4 mini-canvas using a variety of colors\, including metallic permanent markers.  You will also receive a wooden easel to display it on! \nSharon Lee Mullen-Reynolds knew in High School that she was to be an Art teacher.  That is exactly what she did; for 36 years she taught Visual Art in the city of New Haven.  Her career hi-light was teaching 22 years at the Betsy Ross Arts Magnet Middle School.  During her tenure there she was a published Fellow at Yale N.H.Teachers Institute for 2 years\, the  Department Chairperson for 8 years and creator of As Far As The Eye Can See a school-wide art exhibit. \nSince her retirement in 2016\, she has been attending numerous art exhibits and installations locally and in NYC\, specifically Frida Kahlo’s exhibit at the Brooklyn Art Museum which led her to create Frida- inspired floral headpieces. In 2017 she started The Kindness Rock art installation at the Branford Festival. \nSharon is an artist who believes that art can heal your soul.  In 2022 she sold her headpieces at the Ukrainian Roman Catholic church for the benefit of Ukraine’s War effort and donated 5 Ukrainian Strong “Petals for Peace” paintings to raise additional funds. These paintings were showcased on Channel 8 news. \nIn addition to her headpieces\, Sharon works in mixed-media\, crafts\, collage\, and watercolor landscape en plein air. Sharon’s artwork has been exhibited at City-Wide Open Studios\, The ARTS Council\, Calligraphers Guild\, and is currently exhibited at Spectrum Gallery in Centerbrook\, Connecticut.

DESCRIPTION:Spectrum Art Gallery and Artisans Store of Centerbrook presents Good Morning/Good Night\, an exploration of the beauty found in the transitions between day and night. From the soft glow of morning light to the mysteries of evening\, this show highlights how light and shadow shift throughout the day\, inspiring both contemplation and creativity. The exhibition opens with a reception on Friday\, March 21\, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm\, where guests can enjoy fine art\, crafts\, wine\, and refreshments. The Open House Weekend continues Saturday\, March 22 (1 to 6 pm) and Sunday\, March 23 (1 to 5 pm). The show runs through May 3 at Spectrum Art Gallery\, 61 Main St.\, Centerbrook\, Connecticut. \nThis exhibition features both new and returning artists whose work captures the interplay of light and darkness. Among the featured painters is Beth Pite\, whose dynamic\, color-infused pastels vibrate with movement and energy. Barbara Rossitto explores the interplay between realism and abstraction in her evocative pieces; she works in oil\, watercolor and pastel with a variety of subjects\, mainly representational. \nJoining is also Dianne Gorrick\, an award-winning artist known for her luminous depictions of the ever changing light of clouds as they move from night to day. Other painters showcasing their unique interpretations of this theme include Vivian Zoë\, an artist and arts educator with a varied background who shows colorful works in oil\, while Tatiana Ferraro presents a new watercolor mountainous landscape. Diane Rubacha offers new relief prints\, and Ned Farrell\, a painter and calligrapher\, shows several celestial works in oil and mixed media. Sean Carney is an award-winning artist with a unique style that specializes in painting with Minwax wood stain and a Dremel. \nTom Swimm returns to Spectrum. Born and raised on the East Coast\, he resettled in Southern California and was inspired by the landscape of Laguna. His work is recognizable for its exceptional use of light and color. With numerous exhibits and awards and several illustrated children’s books to his credit\, his painting methods have been included in several art instruction books. Lori Neumann\, a versatile artist from Connecticut\, specializes in oils\, acrylics\, and pastels. Educated at the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts\, she is known for her plein air paintings using a palette knife\, capturing rural New England landscapes and farm animals at dawn and dusk. \nLaurel Hoynoski\, a Connecticut-based artist\, is new to Spectrum Gallery and primarily works with oils\,\nfocusing on birds\, landscapes\, and still life. Mary Alice Landry\, an artist deeply connected with nature\,\ncreates vibrant paintings depicting wildlife and landscapes\, ranging from abstract realism to whimsy. A staunch advocate for both wild and domestic animal rights\, she actively participates in conservation\nefforts and animal welfare. Jean Watson\, also new to the Gallery\, paints landscapes\, seascapes\, still life\, birds\, flowers\, and animals using oils\, pastels and cold wax. \nMark Bavolack\, who had a fulfilling career in commercial printing and color retouching\, embraced painting as a creative outlet several years back. He has a passion for color and beauty and continually seeks to expand his skills through the experiences of others\, using the canvas to express his artistic vision. Nita Vitaliano works primarily in acrylics to create landscapes\, seascapes\, and florals\, with a recent focus on birch trees. Kim McGennis\, a multifaceted artist and educator\, has dedicated her life to exploring and expressing the interconnectedness of humanity through art and explores painting\, drawing\, photography\, and unique hand-painted furniture. She has created numerous mini-paintings for the show. \nOther favorite Spectrum painters and mixed media artists include Rosemary Gates\, Molly Waite Lund\, Linda McCarthy\, Maria Johnson\, Jena Maki\, Jeanette Delmore\, Carol Courtney\, Sabely Peralta and Christian Kunze. Eileen Clark\, also a sea glass jeweler who has now turned to mixed media showcases for the show a stunning crystal\, pebbles and gemstone piece called\, Luminous. Don Carter and Dora Dylanne-Reyes who have a unique vision again present several graphic design pieces of birds interacting with and enjoying desserts! \nAmong the photographers exhibiting in Good Morning/Good Night is Bryn Souza\, an award-winning photographer who has exhibited throughout New England. Although her primary focus is landscape photography\, she is also an experienced pet photographer with her work featured on MarthaStewart.com\, Today.com\, and USA Today. Also new to Spectrum is Geneva Renegar\, renowned for her vivid portrayals of the state’s landscapes\, from shoreline vistas to historic dairy farms. Known for her early morning “Sunrise Sequence”sessions\, she has been featured in exclusive exhibits throughout Connecticut\, with her work also in the International Traveling Exhibition “Water\, Water\, Everywhere” highlighting the significance of water as a dwindling resource. \nRobert Thomas\, a returning favorite photographer at Spectrum\, is known for his ability to capture dramatic landscapes and fleeting light in exquisite compositions. Jake Barba returns with a new work on metal. His preferred subject matters range from landscapes to wildlife and travel photography to astrophotography. Dianne Roberts also presents a unique composition called Window that captures a sunset through an interior window. George Fellner\, a fine art photographer\, returns to Spectrum Gallery to unveil new work including a stunning aurora borealis image and a church in Iceland located on a small piece of land in the middle of a large body of water. And Luke Giroux presents his latest photographic interpretation of a location at sunrise and sunset. \nOther talented photographers in this exhibit include David Zeleznik\, an underwater and nature photographer based in Essex presenting lunar and solar images. Carole Drong\, new to Spectrum\,is a versatile photographer and graphic designer whose compelling photographs have been featured in calendars\, magazines\, and brochures. Gary Connolly\, also new to the Gallery\, is an award-winning photographer\, who captures for the Good Morning/Good Night show a powerful image of a total solar eclipse. SUMMARY:Zoom - Gel Printing Quilt Monotypes
DESCRIPTION:This is a fun and very creative class where you learn to set up a workstation to create colored\, painted paper sheets using gel plates\, stencils and markers.  Experiment with masking techniques using gauze\, acrylics\, and metallic paints\, etc.  After creating a variety of prints\, choose your “Best and Brightest” as well as a few quieter designs.  The instructor will help you work on layout design to create compositional unity before gluing.  Then learn to prepare your support and to adhere each print. Finally\, use gloss\, satin or matte medium as a final sealer.   You will have prints left to create more compositions on your own.  Material list available upon registration. \nRegina Thomas’ collage and mixed media art is a mélange of visual stimuli\, colors\, and shapes involving different genres from the representational to the abstract.  These multi-layered works portray her view of the world\, never realistic\, injecting her own narratives\, metaphors\, and icons.  Regina works instinctually\, and her desire is to stimulate and intrigue the viewer\, make a connection\, bringing their own experiences to the work. \nRegina has lived and traveled throughout Asia and Europe.  While in London\, she attended Richmond University concentrating on the Art Disciplines as well as Studio classes.  Upon her return to the states she continued refining her art through classes and workshops at RISD (Rhode Island School of Design)\, The New Art Center in Newton – MA\, South Shore Art Center – MA\, West Hartford Art League\, Creative Arts Workshop/New Haven\, CT\, Yale University and The British Art Museum. \nRegina has been included in many juried exhibitions in New England. Thomas shows in private galleries and has private collectors across the U.S.\, Europe\, South America and Asia. SUMMARY:Introduction to Pastels
DESCRIPTION:In this class learn to create layers of soft pastels to build up a recognizable image or object.  Blocking in values from light to dark and understanding light to hard application on paper.  In the beginning of class\, simple still life set ups will be used i.e. two pieces of fruit in a bowl\, etc. The light source and an investigation of color ranges that can be applied to any given object will also be explored.  There will be demonstrations of techniques that will help all levels.  Pastels are a wonderful opportunity for those who want to continue to hone their drawing skills with the new dimension of color.  Finally\, fixative spraying will be reviewed including how many layers are necessary.  The last two classes will focus on one more complicated still life set up in an effort to create a completed piece of artwork. Material list available upon registration. \nChris Kunze graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Painting/Illustration. He has had a long & successful career in Advertising and Promotion. His illustrations and designs have been used in books\, magazines\, newspapers\, product packaging and logo design. Chris’ fine art has always remained important throughout his career as a commercial artist. He has had many solo and group shows in New York City\, Westchester County and lower Connecticut\, showcasing his oil paintings\, watercolors and illustrations. Chris was part of an ongoing show at the Arthur Kalaher Fine Art in Sag Harbor\, NY from 2011-2019.  In 2018 he had a solo show of his watercolors at Teatown Lake Reservation. In 2019 Chris began his participation in Arthouse.NYC’s “Healthcare Heroes Show”. He has memorialized several healthcare workers who lost their lives during the height of the Covid pandemic. These oil portraits were given to their families and were on view at the Big Plaza Screen in New York City. Teaching is a passion that has come to the forefront in the past 15 years for Chris. He has been teaching a plethora of subjects among them drawing\, oil painting\, watercolors\, and more at local Westchester art schools.  He is currently teaching at Scarsdale Adult School. DESCRIPTION:Spectrum Art Gallery and Artisans Store of Centerbrook presents Good Morning/Good Night\, an exploration of the beauty found in the transitions between day and night. From the soft glow of morning light to the mysteries of evening\, this show highlights how light and shadow shift throughout the day\, inspiring both contemplation and creativity. The exhibition opens with a reception on Friday\, March 21\, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm\, where guests can enjoy fine art\, crafts\, wine\, and refreshments. The Open House Weekend continues Saturday\, March 22 (1 to 6 pm) and Sunday\, March 23 (1 to 5 pm). The show runs through May 3 at Spectrum Art Gallery\, 61 Main St.\, Centerbrook\, Connecticut. \nThis exhibition features both new and returning artists whose work captures the interplay of light and darkness. Among the featured painters is Beth Pite\, whose dynamic\, color-infused pastels vibrate with movement and energy. Barbara Rossitto explores the interplay between realism and abstraction in her evocative pieces; she works in oil\, watercolor and pastel with a variety of subjects\, mainly representational. \nJoining is also Dianne Gorrick\, an award-winning artist known for her luminous depictions of the ever changing light of clouds as they move from night to day. Other painters showcasing their unique interpretations of this theme include Vivian Zoë\, an artist and arts educator with a varied background who shows colorful works in oil\, while Tatiana Ferraro presents a new watercolor mountainous landscape. Diane Rubacha offers new relief prints\, and Ned Farrell\, a painter and calligrapher\, shows several celestial works in oil and mixed media. Sean Carney is an award-winning artist with a unique style that specializes in painting with Minwax wood stain and a Dremel. \nTom Swimm returns to Spectrum. Born and raised on the East Coast\, he resettled in Southern California and was inspired by the landscape of Laguna. His work is recognizable for its exceptional use of light and color. With numerous exhibits and awards and several illustrated children’s books to his credit\, his painting methods have been included in several art instruction books. Lori Neumann\, a versatile artist from Connecticut\, specializes in oils\, acrylics\, and pastels. Educated at the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts\, she is known for her plein air paintings using a palette knife\, capturing rural New England landscapes and farm animals at dawn and dusk. \nLaurel Hoynoski\, a Connecticut-based artist\, is new to Spectrum Gallery and primarily works with oils\,\nfocusing on birds\, landscapes\, and still life. Mary Alice Landry\, an artist deeply connected with nature\,\ncreates vibrant paintings depicting wildlife and landscapes\, ranging from abstract realism to whimsy. A staunch advocate for both wild and domestic animal rights\, she actively participates in conservation\nefforts and animal welfare. Jean Watson\, also new to the Gallery\, paints landscapes\, seascapes\, still life\, birds\, flowers\, and animals using oils\, pastels and cold wax. \nMark Bavolack\, who had a fulfilling career in commercial printing and color retouching\, embraced painting as a creative outlet several years back. He has a passion for color and beauty and continually seeks to expand his skills through the experiences of others\, using the canvas to express his artistic vision. Nita Vitaliano works primarily in acrylics to create landscapes\, seascapes\, and florals\, with a recent focus on birch trees. Kim McGennis\, a multifaceted artist and educator\, has dedicated her life to exploring and expressing the interconnectedness of humanity through art and explores painting\, drawing\, photography\, and unique hand-painted furniture. She has created numerous mini-paintings for the show. \nOther favorite Spectrum painters and mixed media artists include Rosemary Gates\, Molly Waite Lund\, Linda McCarthy\, Maria Johnson\, Jena Maki\, Jeanette Delmore\, Carol Courtney\, Sabely Peralta and Christian Kunze. SUMMARY:Zoom - Gel Printing Quilt Monotypes
DESCRIPTION:This is a fun and very creative class where you learn to set up a workstation to create colored\, painted paper sheets using gel plates\, stencils and markers.  Experiment with masking techniques using gauze\, acrylics\, and metallic paints\, etc.  After creating a variety of prints\, choose your “Best and Brightest” as well as a few quieter designs.  The instructor will help you work on layout design to create compositional unity before gluing.  Then learn to prepare your support and to adhere each print. Finally\, use gloss\, satin or matte medium as a final sealer.   You will have prints left to create more compositions on your own.  Material list available upon registration. \nRegina Thomas’ collage and mixed media art is a mélange of visual stimuli\, colors\, and shapes involving different genres from the representational to the abstract.  These multi-layered works portray her view of the world\, never realistic\, injecting her own narratives\, metaphors\, and icons.  Regina works instinctually\, and her desire is to stimulate and intrigue the viewer\, make a connection\, bringing their own experiences to the work. \nRegina has lived and traveled throughout Asia and Europe.  While in London\, she attended Richmond University concentrating on the Art Disciplines as well as Studio classes.  Upon her return to the states she continued refining her art through classes and workshops at RISD (Rhode Island School of Design)\, The New Art Center in Newton – MA\, South Shore Art Center – MA\, West Hartford Art League\, Creative Arts Workshop/New Haven\, CT\, Yale University and The British Art Museum. \nRegina has been included in many juried exhibitions in New England. Thomas shows in private galleries and has private collectors across the U.S.\, Europe\, South America and Asia. SUMMARY:Introduction to Pastels
DESCRIPTION:In this class learn to create layers of soft pastels to build up a recognizable image or object.  Blocking in values from light to dark and understanding light to hard application on paper.  In the beginning of class\, simple still life set ups will be used i.e. two pieces of fruit in a bowl\, etc. The light source and an investigation of color ranges that can be applied to any given object will also be explored.  There will be demonstrations of techniques that will help all levels.  Pastels are a wonderful opportunity for those who want to continue to hone their drawing skills with the new dimension of color.  Finally\, fixative spraying will be reviewed including how many layers are necessary.  The last two classes will focus on one more complicated still life set up in an effort to create a completed piece of artwork. Material list available upon registration. \nChris Kunze graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Painting/Illustration. He has had a long & successful career in Advertising and Promotion. His illustrations and designs have been used in books\, magazines\, newspapers\, product packaging and logo design. Chris’ fine art has always remained important throughout his career as a commercial artist. He has had many solo and group shows in New York City\, Westchester County and lower Connecticut\, showcasing his oil paintings\, watercolors and illustrations. Chris was part of an ongoing show at the Arthur Kalaher Fine Art in Sag Harbor\, NY from 2011-2019.  In 2018 he had a solo show of his watercolors at Teatown Lake Reservation. In 2019 Chris began his participation in Arthouse.NYC’s “Healthcare Heroes Show”. He has memorialized several healthcare workers who lost their lives during the height of the Covid pandemic. These oil portraits were given to their families and were on view at the Big Plaza Screen in New York City. Teaching is a passion that has come to the forefront in the past 15 years for Chris. He has been teaching a plethora of subjects among them drawing\, oil painting\, watercolors\, and more at local Westchester art schools.  He is currently teaching at Scarsdale Adult School. DESCRIPTION:Spectrum Art Gallery and Artisans Store of Centerbrook presents Good Morning/Good Night\, an exploration of the beauty found in the transitions between day and night. From the soft glow of morning light to the mysteries of evening\, this show highlights how light and shadow shift throughout the day\, inspiring both contemplation and creativity. The exhibition opens with a reception on Friday\, March 21\, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm\, where guests can enjoy fine art\, crafts\, wine\, and refreshments. The Open House Weekend continues Saturday\, March 22 (1 to 6 pm) and Sunday\, March 23 (1 to 5 pm). The show runs through May 3 at Spectrum Art Gallery\, 61 Main St.\, Centerbrook\, Connecticut. \nThis exhibition features both new and returning artists whose work captures the interplay of light and darkness. Among the featured painters is Beth Pite\, whose dynamic\, color-infused pastels vibrate with movement and energy. Barbara Rossitto explores the interplay between realism and abstraction in her evocative pieces; she works in oil\, watercolor and pastel with a variety of subjects\, mainly representational. \nJoining is also Dianne Gorrick\, an award-winning artist known for her luminous depictions of the ever changing light of clouds as they move from night to day. Other painters showcasing their unique interpretations of this theme include Vivian Zoë\, an artist and arts educator with a varied background who shows colorful works in oil\, while Tatiana Ferraro presents a new watercolor mountainous landscape. Diane Rubacha offers new relief prints\, and Ned Farrell\, a painter and calligrapher\, shows several celestial works in oil and mixed media. Sean Carney is an award-winning artist with a unique style that specializes in painting with Minwax wood stain and a Dremel. \nTom Swimm returns to Spectrum. Born and raised on the East Coast\, he resettled in Southern California and was inspired by the landscape of Laguna. His work is recognizable for its exceptional use of light and color. With numerous exhibits and awards and several illustrated children’s books to his credit\, his painting methods have been included in several art instruction books. Lori Neumann\, a versatile artist from Connecticut\, specializes in oils\, acrylics\, and pastels. Educated at the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts\, she is known for her plein air paintings using a palette knife\, capturing rural New England landscapes and farm animals at dawn and dusk. \nLaurel Hoynoski\, a Connecticut-based artist\, is new to Spectrum Gallery and primarily works with oils\,\nfocusing on birds\, landscapes\, and still life. Mary Alice Landry\, an artist deeply connected with nature\,\ncreates vibrant paintings depicting wildlife and landscapes\, ranging from abstract realism to whimsy. A staunch advocate for both wild and domestic animal rights\, she actively participates in conservation\nefforts and animal welfare. Jean Watson\, also new to the Gallery\, paints landscapes\, seascapes\, still life\, birds\, flowers\, and animals using oils\, pastels and cold wax. \nMark Bavolack\, who had a fulfilling career in commercial printing and color retouching\, embraced painting as a creative outlet several years back. He has a passion for color and beauty and continually seeks to expand his skills through the experiences of others\, using the canvas to express his artistic vision. Nita Vitaliano works primarily in acrylics to create landscapes\, seascapes\, and florals\, with a recent focus on birch trees. Kim McGennis\, a multifaceted artist and educator\, has dedicated her life to exploring and expressing the interconnectedness of humanity through art and explores painting\, drawing\, photography\, and unique hand-painted furniture. She has created numerous mini-paintings for the show. \nOther favorite Spectrum painters and mixed media artists include Rosemary Gates\, Molly Waite Lund\, Linda McCarthy\, Maria Johnson\, Jena Maki\, Jeanette Delmore\, Carol Courtney\, Sabely Peralta and Christian Kunze. Eileen Clark\, also a sea glass jeweler who has now turned to mixed media showcases for the show a stunning crystal\, pebbles and gemstone piece called\, Luminous. Don Carter and Dora Dylanne-Reyes who have a unique vision again present several graphic design pieces of birds interacting with and enjoying desserts! \nAmong the photographers exhibiting in Good Morning/Good Night is Bryn Souza\, an award-winning photographer who has exhibited throughout New England. Although her primary focus is landscape photography\, she is also an experienced pet photographer with her work featured on MarthaStewart.com\, Today.com\, and USA Today. Also new to Spectrum is Geneva Renegar\, renowned for her vivid portrayals of the state’s landscapes\, from shoreline vistas to historic dairy farms. Known for her early morning “Sunrise Sequence”sessions\, she has been featured in exclusive exhibits throughout Connecticut\, with her work also in the International Traveling Exhibition “Water\, Water\, Everywhere” highlighting the significance of water as a dwindling resource. \nRobert Thomas\, a returning favorite photographer at Spectrum\, is known for his ability to capture dramatic landscapes and fleeting light in exquisite compositions. Jake Barba returns with a new work on metal. His preferred subject matters range from landscapes to wildlife and travel photography to astrophotography. Dianne Roberts also presents a unique composition called Window that captures a sunset through an interior window. George Fellner\, a fine art photographer\, returns to Spectrum Gallery to unveil new work including a stunning aurora borealis image and a church in Iceland located on a small piece of land in the middle of a large body of water. Leigh Graham\, a lifelong fiber artist from Western Connecticut\, creates dramatic textile and bead embroidery jewelry. DESCRIPTION:This is a fun and very creative class where you learn to set up a workstation to create colored\, painted paper sheets using gel plates\, stencils and markers.  Experiment with masking techniques using gauze\, acrylics\, and metallic paints\, etc.  After creating a variety of prints\, choose your “Best and Brightest” as well as a few quieter designs.  The instructor will help you work on layout design to create compositional unity before gluing.  Then learn to prepare your support and to adhere each print. Finally\, use gloss\, satin or matte medium as a final sealer.   You will have prints left to create more compositions on your own.  Material list available upon registration. \nRegina Thomas’ collage and mixed media art is a mélange of visual stimuli\, colors\, and shapes involving different genres from the representational to the abstract.  These multi-layered works portray her view of the world\, never realistic\, injecting her own narratives\, metaphors\, and icons.  Regina works instinctually\, and her desire is to stimulate and intrigue the viewer\, make a connection\, bringing their own experiences to the work. \nRegina has lived and traveled throughout Asia and Europe.  While in London\, she attended Richmond University concentrating on the Art Disciplines as well as Studio classes.  Upon her return to the states she continued refining her art through classes and workshops at RISD (Rhode Island School of Design)\, The New Art Center in Newton – MA\, South Shore Art Center – MA\, West Hartford Art League\, Creative Arts Workshop/New Haven\, CT\, Yale University and The British Art Museum. \nRegina has been included in many juried exhibitions in New England. Thomas shows in private galleries and has private collectors across the U.S.\, Europe\, South America and Asia. SUMMARY:Introduction to Pastels
DESCRIPTION:In this class learn to create layers of soft pastels to build up a recognizable image or object.  Blocking in values from light to dark and understanding light to hard application on paper.  In the beginning of class\, simple still life set ups will be used i.e. two pieces of fruit in a bowl\, etc. The light source and an investigation of color ranges that can be applied to any given object will also be explored.  There will be demonstrations of techniques that will help all levels.  Pastels are a wonderful opportunity for those who want to continue to hone their drawing skills with the new dimension of color.  Finally\, fixative spraying will be reviewed including how many layers are necessary.  The last two classes will focus on one more complicated still life set up in an effort to create a completed piece of artwork. Material list available upon registration. \nChris Kunze graduated from Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Painting/Illustration. He has had a long & successful career in Advertising and Promotion. His illustrations and designs have been used in books\, magazines\, newspapers\, product packaging and logo design. Chris’ fine art has always remained important throughout his career as a commercial artist. He has had many solo and group shows in New York City\, Westchester County and lower Connecticut\, showcasing his oil paintings\, watercolors and illustrations. Chris was part of an ongoing show at the Arthur Kalaher Fine Art in Sag Harbor\, NY from 2011-2019.  In 2018 he had a solo show of his watercolors at Teatown Lake Reservation. In 2019 Chris began his participation in Arthouse.NYC’s “Healthcare Heroes Show”. He has memorialized several healthcare workers who lost their lives during the height of the Covid pandemic. These oil portraits were given to their families and were on view at the Big Plaza Screen in New York City. Teaching is a passion that has come to the forefront in the past 15 years for Chris. He has been teaching a plethora of subjects among them drawing\, oil painting\, watercolors\, and more at local Westchester art schools.  He is currently teaching at Scarsdale Adult School. SUMMARY:Botanical Illustration with Pen & Ink and Colored Pencils
DESCRIPTION:Create beautiful botanical illustrations in pen and ink! Each week will focus on a different botanical study. Participants will learn how to observe\, and utilize ink to capture the subject matter with detail and accuracy. Colored pencils are used to enhance the black and white drawings. No previous experience is necessary. Come enjoy a creative and fun class! \nNancy Bentivegna is a botanical artist who received her training at the New York Botanical Gardens through the Botanical Art and Illustration Program. After completing the program in 2010\, she relocated to Boston. For the past eleven years she has been teaching a variety of botanical art classes in Boston and the greater Boston area. These courses are based on the instruction she received at the NYBG and include colored pencil\, graphite\, pen and ink and watercolor pencil. \nNancy prefers to work in watercolor pencil combined with colored pencil for depth and detail. She does custom pieces for clients both in the Boston area and New York.
