The Griswold Inn

The historic Griswold Inn has been in continuous operation since 1776, providing comfortable beds, extraordinary meals and superb drink to seafarers and overland travelers. Situated in the heart of Essex village mere steps from the Connecticut River, The 'Gris' serves as a hub of community life. Its five distinct dining rooms collectively house one of the most important private maritime art collections in the country. The spirited Tap Room - voted Connecticut's Best Bar over and over - features live music on most evenings and the stunning Wine Bar is in every aspect - delicious! The Inn offers 33 guest accommodations throughout its campus which consists of the Main Building plus seven other surrounding historic structures. The Inn’s museum-style store, Goods & Curiosities, completes the campus with its eclectic offerings. As noted in 1000 Places To See Before You Die, The Griswold Inn is truly a "must experience".
