    As this season keeps blooming, we are excited to announce the EAA Spring Juried Show with a floral theme for our second show of the 2026 Exhibition Season! KEY DATES Entries (in person only): Monday, May 11 from 2 to 6 pm Notification of Acceptance on website:  Thursday, May 14 Show starts: Friday, May 15 Gallery Hours: Wednesdays thru Sundays, 1 pm to 5 pm Opening Reception: Friday, May 22 from 6 pm to 8 pm, with awards at 7 pm Pickup unsold art: Monday, June 8 ABOUT THE JUROR Nancy Whitcher is a Connecticut-based, classically trained artist working across monotype printmaking, clay sculpture, and photography. She maintains an active exhibition schedule that includes museums, juried national, regional, and local exhibitions, as well as commercial galleries in both solo and group shows. Her work is held in permanent and private collections. Whitcher is frequently invited to serve as an art juror, visiting artist, mentor, guest speaker, and award consultant. She has completed residencies at Zea Mays Printmaking and the Vermont Studio Center.     Please join us at 6 pm on Friday, April 24th, for the EAA Spring Open Show juried by Eddie Hall, along with Alex Wetmore's solo show in the Gantner Gallery. Award presentation at 7 pm. We are located on 10 North Main Street in Essex, CT. Gallery hours are Wednesdays thru Sundays from 1 to 5 pm starting April 17th. Admission is free!

    The Essex Scarecrow Contest and FestiFall have become a much-loved community tradition, bringing creativity, fun, and local spirit to the Main Streets of Centerbrook, Essex, and Ivoryton each fall! Every year, residents, businesses, and organizations design and build scarecrows to display on lamp posts throughout town. Past themes have included Wizards & Witches and now we’re setting sail with this year’s theme: PIRATES! The scarecrows will be on display all October, so stroll the streets, snap photos, and share your favorites! Scarecrow drop-off: Sunday, September 28 at Essex Art Association (10 North Main Street, Essex, CT) Voting to start Saturday, October 4th online at essexct.com Questions or need a frame?     You’re invited! Please join us this Friday at 6 PM for the Opening Reception of the EAA Summer Juried Show! Running concurrently in the Gantner Gallery will be a special solo exhibition by artist Alexa MacCrady. Congratulations to the award winners! For the first time ever at EAA, we’re excited to present a unique fusion of visual art and poetry: Ekphrastic poetry readings by EAA artists — debuting at the opening reception! These original poems, inspired by artwork in the show, offer a powerful literary reflection on the visual experience. Ekphrastic poetry is an ancient tradition — poetry written in response to visual art — and we’re thrilled to bring it to life in our gallery! The poems were created in a special workshop led by the insightful and multitalented Edward Lent, who is the President of the Ekphrastic Poetry Trust, Poet Laureate of Madison and EAA member. His thoughtful guidance sparked meaningful connections between image and word by EAA artists. Poetry readings begin at 7 PM, followed by the award presentation.
