SUMMARY:Art Classes for Ages 7-11
DESCRIPTION:In this session the focus is on the Line……a moving point\, a dot that goes for a walk which can vary in length\, width\, direction and curvature. The alphabet is composed of lines so projects will include each child’s name and letters of the alphabet as a focus for designing an Egyptian Cartouche where children use the hieroglyphic alphabet to sketch the symbols that represent the letters or sounds of their names.  Their names will also be designed into a colorful drawing as they review color theory: primary\, secondary\, warm\, cool\, complimentary & tertiary colors. Using their knowledge of color theory and lines they will create an abstract crayon-resist watercolor painting connecting the letters of the alphabet. They’ll practice more line drawings as they learn to draw word art animals and finally design a poster with a short positive message and illustrations to help spotlight their message. \n April 8\, 2026 – May 13\, 2026\n 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm \nAll classes are held on Wednesdays\, 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM at Spectrum Gallery\, 61 Main Street\, Centerbrook.  Cost is $125 per child.  Dates are as follows: April 8\, April 22\, April 29; May 6\, May 13. SUMMARY:Chanticleer – the renowned "Orchestra of Voices" – in Concert at Essex Winter Series
DESCRIPTION:Having captivated audiences worldwide\, Chanticleer – the Grammy® Award-winning choral ensemble of 12 male voices – again appears for an Essex Winter Series concert with a soaring\, spellbinding program called Without A Song. The group notes that “Music can lead us to places we never expected. It can inspire us forward\, or it can hold us back. Music’s power has been the subject of wonder and speculation for millenia. Its ability to influence people has been both lauded and derided. Music has been called both divine and diabolical. In Without a Song\, Chanticleer explores music’s power throughout the ages. Repertoire includes Medieval and Renaissance motets by Guillaume de Machaut and Orlando di Lasso\, a new work by the Grammy-nominated composer Ayanna Woods\, and a new version of the jazz standard Without a Song\, arranged for us by Stacey Gibbs.” A not-to-miss event\, this “orchestra of voices” will close the 49th EWS season on April 12\, 2026\, at Valley Regional High School in Deep River\, CT. \nConcerts are on Sundays at 3 pm and are general admission. Adult – $45 / Student – $5. Discounted subscriptions are available as well. For information or tickets\, visit www.essexwinterseries.com or call 860-272-4572. For all our venues\, parking\, entry and seating accessibility is available. \n2026 season sponsors include ASP Trust\, BrandTech Scientific\, Clark Group\, Essex Bank & Essex Financial Services\, Essex Meadows\, Jeffrey N. Mehler CFP LLC\, Masonicare at Chester Village\, Tower Laboratories\, and WSHU. We also gratefully acknowledge the support for our mission of concerts and community outreach received in part through grant funding by ASP Trust\, Community Foundation of Middlesex County\, Connecticut Office of the Arts/DECD/NEA\, Essex Bank Community Investment Program\, and The Kitchings Family Foundation.
