Connecticut River Museum Talks: Mills: Making Places of Connecticut

Guest Renee Tribert of Preservation Connecticut

Join us as we discuss the historic physical structures that speak to Connecticut’s industrial past, and carry forward to our present and future. Interesting industries/architecture, as well as case studies on different rehabs throughout the state will be discussed. Highlights cover the industries in Essex, Deep River, and other places along the Connecticut River.

In her work at Preservation Connecticut, the statewide non-profit established in 1975 to protect and promote the structures and landscapes that bespeak the heritage of Connecticut communities, Renée provides general preservation services and technical assistance to further the reuse of historic buildings. As manager of a statewide survey of historic industrial resources, funded by the State Historic Preservation Office, she oversaw the development of the website, Mills: Making Places of Connecticut, launched at the end of 2017; it offers both historical information and practical data useful to preservation minded developers.

A graduate of Brown University, Renée also holds an MS in historic preservation from the University of Pennsylvania and is the author of Gervase Wheeler: A British Architect in America 1847-1860. Previous professional experience includes curator at the Harriet Beecher Stowe House in Hartford, collections manager at the New Britain Museum of American Art, and environmental analyst at Catalyst Environmental Consulting Inc.
