ROOMS WITH A VIEW: WETHERSFIELD’S SUBLIME FORMAL GARDENS

April 23, 2022 @ 10:30 am

Free

A classical landscape built at a human scale, Wethersfield Estate, in Amenia, New York, invites visitors into ornate garden rooms and rambling woodlands, spaces at once intimate and open to the vast countryside, inspiring childlike wonder and storybook surprise at every turn. Widely regarded as one of the country’s finest Italianate gardens, in recent years Wethersfield has begun sensitive restoration work, receiving renewed public interest and national and international attention, including placement on the National Register of Historic Places as well as coverage in Architectural Digest, Martha Stewart Living, and Country Life. On Saturday, April 23rd at 10:30 a.m., Wethersfield’s Director of Horticulture, Toshi Yano, will describe the creation of the Wethersfield gardens and the new approaches he is bringing to their restoration, preservation and elaboration in a Zoom event for the Essex Library. Yano was recently selected as one of the Five Horticulturists Forging a New Path in Gardening by Veranda as part of their 2022 Outdoor Living Awards. This event is co-hosted with the Hotchkiss Library of Sharon.

This Zoom event is free and open to the public. Registration is required. For more information or to register, please call the Essex Library at 860-767-1560 or see https://www.youressexlibrary.org/adult-services/adults-featured-events/
