Teen Poetry Club: Blackout Poetry
June 29, 2023 @ 4:00 pm
FreeEssex Library will host the first session of Teen Poetry Club on Thursday June 29 at 4 PM. Each session will focus on a different type of poetry. Teens will learn the guidelines behind creating different types of poetry and have the opportunity to experiment with the style to create their own poetic works!
For this session, teens will study blackout poetry – a form of erasure poetry where the writer narrows down the words they don’t want on a page of existing text, and then selects and arranges the words that are left into a unique creation! Teens will learn the history of the poetic style, read some examples, and use Young Adult novels to create their own blackout poetry.
This program is free and open to teens ages 13-18. Registration required. For more information about the program, please call the Essex Library at 860-767-1560 or see https://www.youressexlibrary.org/ The Essex Library is located at 33 West Avenue in Essex.
