Join us from 3:00 – 6:00 PM on the first Saturday of June for a community event to remember: the Rotary Club of Essex 2024 Shad Bake, being held at Essex Island Marina’s Safe Harbor grounds. Park your car in Essex and catch the ferry at the corner of Pratt and Ferry Streets.
This important culinary tradition started in 1958 and is a quintessential spring ritual of the Connecticut River.
Enjoy the bucolic setting, local charm, and great taste of local shad prepared the way of the ancient ancestors who cooked the fish on boards surrounding a great fire. This time-honored tradition has been married to modern conventions like our patented de-nailing process and Lyman Orchard’s pie! The old and new merge to create the perfect afternoon steeped in history, tradition, and culinary magic!
• New England clam chowder, oyster, and clam appetizers start at 3:00 p.m. (at an additional cost)
• Cash bar serving beer, wine, and soda open from 3:00-6:00 p.m.
• Dinner is served between 4:30-6:00 p.m.
In addition to great food and drinks, As Time Goes By – Community Swing Band will provide live music for your entertainment.
