Take a Selfie on Daffodil Hill!
April 15, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 1:00 pm on Saturday, repeating until April 23, 2023
In November of 2020, The Essex Foundation’s Board of Directors approved plans to continue its community beautification work with the planting of 5,000 daffodil bulbs on the hill owned by First Congregational Church located on Methodist Hill in Essex Village. Sullivan Lawn Service was hired to plant the bulbs in a naturalized fashion, which required a few crew members and a few days to cover the 7500 square-foot area. Funding for the bulb purchase and planting services came from a bequest to The Essex Foundation by the late Elizabeth Callender, with additional support provided by The Paul Foundation, Centerbrook Properties, and individual donors.

Essex Congregational Church was founded in 1852 and is part of the United Church of Christ. All persons, regardless of race, age, sexual orientation, ethnicity, physical and mental ability, marital standing, economic status, and family configuration are welcome to participate fully in the life of the church. Both our Purpose Statement and Church Covenant encourage us to live out Jesus’ commandment to love God and neighbor.
They state, in part, that “The purpose and mission of this church shall be to worship God and offer loving service to all people by laboring together for the progress of knowledge, the promotion of justice, the reign of peace, and the realization of unity.”
