Winter Wildlife Eagle Cruises 2023

Connecticut River Museum: Every winter, Bald Eagles from as far north as Canada make their way to the open waters of the Connecticut River for easy fishing and nesting. Get up close aboard RiverQuest, an environmentally friendly vessel with a heated cabin and ample deck space. An on-board naturalist provides narration while you get a view of the winter River. Coffee and use of binoculars is included in ticket price as well as free admission to Connecticut River Museum galleries and the Eagles of Essex exhibit.

On Zoom: The Art of Building Texture in Trees with Collage & Mixed Media

This class is a multi-layered collage approach to creating intricate textures for trees using golden gel pastes, torn ephemera, imagery, text and script.  Specialty textural papers and corrugated cardboard are welcome as well.  Instructor has created over 90 art works through the years focusing on the beauty of trees, especially the intricacies of their barks.  You will also add to that the asymmetrical designs of branches and the various sculptural forms that trees can take.  If this excites your creative juices, take photographs w/ your cell phone, find on-line images and magazine shots of trees that interest you. All levels welcome. Material list available upon registration.

New Acrylic Studio

Spectrum Art Gallery and Artisan Store 61 Main Street, Centerbrook

The focus will be on enjoying the painting process. Whether you are beginning your painting journey or already have some painting experience. Painting demonstrations and the instructor painting along builds confidence and encourages questions. We will work from reference photos (yours or supplied) of primarily landscape or still life images.  Tackling composition, color mixing, and color value. Practicing drawing techniques to refine drawing skills making for better paintings. Exploring unique challenges with each new subject, and developing our paintings to a finished level. We will end each class with a friendly critique of our work.

Teen Book Club

The first meeting of Teen Book Club (Gr. 7-12) is September 29 at 4 PM. This month we are reading The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes.
