    Essex Park and Recreation is excited to be able to offer another great set of bands this year for our 2025 Summer Concert Series.  Hosted on alternating Tuesdays at The Ivoryton Green and Wednesdays at The Essex Main Street Park, concerts take place at 6:30pm from July 2 through August 13th. Please carefully note the location as our venue changes each week. July 30 – Essex Village Main Street Park –Brian Blumenthal aka “Bloomer” has been entertaining the masses for the past 17 years.  His song selections span decades and many genres of music.  Bloomer knits these songs into a seamless show making sitting in your seat nearly impossible.

  • Thursdays on the Dock: Cherry Pie

    Thursdays on the Dock has been a shoreline staple for 16 years and remains the premier destination for waterfront music. Swing by each Thursday evening in July and August, bring a chair or blanket, listen to a free concert, and watch the sun go down over the river. Jump, jive, and kick your heels up to swing, rockabilly, Latin and a few sultry ballads thrown in just for fun. With Jilian Grey and the boys, Cherry Pie is a delicious, freshly baked musical dance party with just enough retro sprinkled on top for a sweet-stepping good time! Jilian Grey and drummer Ric Haddad, together with Lou Bocciarelli on bass and Paul John Tautkus on guitar, have become a weekly favorite at the Griswold Inn and perform at many established venues along the Shoreline. August 5 - Ivoryton Village Green- Southern Voice is a contemporary Country Cover band that plays all the chart hits today, as well as some other genres of music to keep the crowd up and on the dance floor. Though they are a country band, they play many other artists to cover the pop, rock, southern rock, and dance genres. Their goal is to make sure your time with them is one to remember.

    Thursdays on the Dock has been a shoreline staple for 16 years and remains the premier destination for waterfront music. Bring a chair or blanket, listen to a free concert, and watch the sun go down over the River. Enjoy a performance by the 102D Army Band, “Connecticut’s Own” Army National Guard Band, including Brass Chaos and other patriotic tunes. Beer and wine are available for purchase. Porky Pete’s BBQ and Deep River Ice will offer food and treats onsite. Museum-branded tumblers are available for beverage discounts. These events are free; we pass a hat to support the series.

Parker’s Tangent plays rock music inspired by the sounds of the blues.Their music ranges from poetic, quiet and touching to bluesy and soulful, with vocals similar to Grace Slick and Nora Jones. Their sound includes drums, percussion, lead and rhythm guitars, bass and violin. They are a regional, professional working band based out of greater New Haven CT, with music that is extremely accessible and can be enjoyed by people of virtually all ages. They have been together over twenty years and have performed at hundreds and hundreds of bookings including Toads’ Place, the main stage of the New Haven Green, The International Festival of Arts and Ideas, Westport’s Blues, Views and Bar-B-Que Festival, the Phoenix, the Bedford Playhouse Clive Davis Art Center Long Wharf Theater, the CT Garlic and Harvest Festival and many more! Born out of a mutual respect for all things auditory and a humble appreciation for an organic evolution, lifelong friends Frank Natter, Erin Smith, and Abraham Wilson have embarked on an unforgettable musical journey: the band Local Honey.     The Essex Scarecrow Contest and FestiFall have become a much-loved community tradition, bringing creativity, fun, and local spirit to the Main Streets of Centerbrook, Essex, and Ivoryton each fall! Every year, residents, businesses, and organizations design and build scarecrows to display on lamp posts throughout town. Past themes have included Wizards & Witches and now we’re setting sail with this year’s theme: PIRATES! The scarecrows will be on display all October, so stroll the streets, snap photos, and share your favorites!   • Con Brio Christmas Concerts

    In celebration of Sir John Rutter’s 80th birthday, Con Brio presents Sir John Rutter’s Christmas. In the words of the New York Times, “John Rutter is the composer who owns Christmas” Con Brio’s Christmas Concerts with the Con Brio Festival Orchestra, and Con Brio Chorus, will be conducted by Dr. Chris Shepard. The guest soprano soloist is Louise Fauteux. Friday December 12, 2025 at 7.00 PM Sunday December 14, 2025 at 3.00 PM Save the date!  Tickets are $40 or $15 for students. Tickets will be available in September. Patrons are advised to purchase tickets early, as concerts sell out. The performance runs for about 2 hours, including intermission. The concerts feature the Rutter Magnificat, and many of Sir John’s best-loved carols, as well as traditional carol arrangements. This will include carols with audience participation.     On March 22, 2026, the award-winning Trio Animoso will grace the stage at Congregation Beth Shalom Rodfe Zedek on East Kings Highway in Chester, CT for our third Essex Winter Series concert. This phenomenal group of young artists – Sophia Jean, flute; Julian Seney, viola; and Subin Lee, harp – who formed at Yale and won First Prize at the Angel Padilla Crespo International Harp Competition, will delight with a program called French Impressions, American Echoes. Selections include Debussy’s Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp, as well as pieces by Rameau, Ravel, Bonis and others. ​Concerts are on Sundays at 3 pm and are general admission.     Having captivated audiences worldwide, Chanticleer – the Grammy® Award-winning choral ensemble of 12 male voices – again appears for an Essex Winter Series concert with a soaring, spellbinding program called Without A Song. The group notes that "Music can lead us to places we never expected. It can inspire us forward, or it can hold us back. Music’s power has been the subject of wonder and speculation for millenia. Its ability to influence people has been both lauded and derided. Music has been called both divine and diabolical. In Without a Song, Chanticleer explores music’s power throughout the ages. Repertoire includes Medieval and Renaissance motets by Guillaume de Machaut and Orlando di Lasso, a new work by the Grammy-nominated composer Ayanna Woods, and a new version of the jazz standard Without a Song, arranged for us by Stacey Gibbs."
