Essex: STEAM Saturdays series for kids continues with Kinetic Sand at the Essex Library on January 28 at 10:00 AM. Children are invited to explore how ordinary dish soap reacts with sand and cornstarch to create kinetic sand. Participants will make kinetic sand to take home.
Essex: Children’s interactive illustration and book signing event for Essex Ed’s Groundhog Day Parade. Program will take place on Saturday, January 28 at 12:00 PM. Children are invited to join the book’s illustrator, Mina Hamamoto Mohtasham, in an illustration workshop, followed by a book reading with the book’s author, Sue Cornell.

Essex: College preparedness series for teens continues with FAFSA Workshop program, held at the Essex Library on February 1 at 5:30 PM, snow date February 8. Admissions counselors from Middlesex Community College will walk students and parents through filling out the online Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application. Free and open to teens and their parents.
A free, illustrated author talk and Asian vegetarian cuisine cooking demo will be presented by New York–based blogger and writer Maggie Zhu at 7 p.m. Feb. 2 for the Essex, Darien and Hotchkiss Libraries on Zoom. Zhu will demonstrate the art of plant-based Asian cooking with the classic dish, Mapo Tofu.
