Who Are We?

“Experience Essex” is brought to you by the Essex Board of Trade.

Incorporated in January 1999, the EBOT comprises business members in Essex Township’s three villages – Essex, Centerbrook, and Ivoryton. The EBOT is managed by a volunteer board of directors dedicated to promoting a vibrant community for residents, visitors, and businesses to enjoy and thrive in. The EBOT sponsors many Essex events that have become beloved community traditions. The organization also decorates the Main Streets of Essex villages to celebrate the seasons – American flags for summer, scarecrows for fall, and garlands and lights to celebrate the winter holidays.

The Three Villages

Welcome to the three villages that comprise Essex Township – Centerbrook, Essex, & Ivoryton. One of the TODAY show’s “America’s Merriest Main Streets”!

Each of the three villages has its own unique identity (and zip code!). But we are all “Essex” in community and spirit! We think you’ll find many things to offer visitors from an extended weekend getaway to a pleasant day trip!

Centerbrook has served as the crossroads of Essex since early colonial times. The Falls River flows through the heart of the bustling commercial hub and it is also home to the famous Essex Steam Train.

Alongside the Connecticut River, Essex originally was industrialized, as well. The town had its roots in shipbuilding and rope walks. Now the streets are lined with adorable shops and restaurants instead of rope!

Tucked in the hillside, Ivoryton was once home to an ivory factory and buildings to house and entertain factory workers. Today, the village offers charming residential enclaves and cultural centers, home to seasonal festivals, the Ivoryton Playhouse, art and antique stores, and restaurants.

Please visit our website at essexct.com for the latest events, information, and where to shop, visit, dine, and participate in the Essex community!
