It's almost time for the Essex Land Trust Community Concert, Saturday June 21 from 5-7PM featuring live music from Melaena! Enjoy a fun filled evening at the Essex Town Green (12 Main St, Essex) with friends, live music and views of Middle Cove, hosted by the Essex Land Trust. Melaena is a six-piece cover band whose sole mission is to perform music that “makes you want to dance.” We’ll be grooving to songs from every decade, from Top 40 and Motown, to Classic Rock and current hits. Bring your family and friends, blankets and chairs, picnic baskets and choice of beverages, and be prepared to sip, dance, and have some fun! Dogs on leash are ok! This event is weather dependent.

Joseph Morneault is the president of the Maritime Music & Tradition Society, which features as its primary event the annual CT Sea Music Festival held in Essex, CT. Joseph is a social historian and author with a focus on the late 18th century, and can be regularly heard performing every Monday night at the Griswold Inn in Essex. Join the RiverLane for a heartwarming weekend of new beginnings! The RiverLane is partnering with Dog Days to host an adoption event on Saturday, June 28th and Sunday, June 29th from 11 AM to 4 PM. The event will take place outside, next to their Essex store. Dog Days has been rescuing dogs for 15 years, and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate this milestone! Take a trip down Main Street in Essex Village to capture the rich maritime history of 18th century “Potapaug,” its working waterfront and ship-building prominence in the early 19th century as well as its development as a beautiful visitor destination of today. Our tours meet at the "Foot of Main Street" in front of the CT River Museum and start at 5:00pm. Walking tours are open to the public but we do appreciate an RSVP that you plan to attend by emailing our Director at mjosefiak@essexhistory.org. We ask for a $5 donation per person but tours are free to active 2025 members. Our walks last about an hour and are on mostly flat ground covering a little less than a mile. We try to adapt our tours a bit based on our audience of the day, but if you would like a fully customized tour, please contact our staff 860-767-0681 to arrange, giving us at least 3 weeks to arrange our guide scheduling. Summer 2025 walks will be on Sundays: June 29, July 27, August 31 and September 28.

Drawing its musical influences from American roots music — swing, boogie-woogie, and Motown- Eight to the Bar is known for its outstanding instrumentalists and sophisticated musical and vocal arrangements, highlighted by female vocals. With the support of independently produced CDs and videos, Eight to the Bar has cultivated a large, enthusiastic following that has put them in clubs from Maine to Miami as well as Europe and the Caribbean. Their rigorous touring schedule has included opening spots for Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Manhattan Transfer, Robert Cray, the late Roy Orbison and Ray Charles, several European tours, and a tour of the Republic of Georgia at the invitation of the U.S. Embassy located there. As part of our 70th Anniversary celebration, Essex Historical Society announces a blacksmith demonstration on Saturday, July 26 from 1 - 4pm at Pratt House—to showcase the trade that sustained the Pratt family. Pratt House is Essex’s only historic house museum and home to nine generations of the Pratt family, many of whom were blacksmiths. Local blacksmith Baird Welch-Collins will demonstrate historic blacksmithing techniques to illustrate the workmanship that skilled tradespeople such as the Pratts contributed to a Connecticut seaport town. Visitors may also enjoy the FREE tours of Pratt House, where knowledgeable guides provide information on the home’s history and you can explore rotating exhibits featuring objects from the EHS’s collections and archives. While on the grounds, please enjoy Pratt’s barn, kitchen garden and pollinator garden. This family-friendly program is FREE to the public and welcomes donations. Registration NOT required.

His song selections span decades and many genres of music. Bloomer knits these songs into a seamless show making sitting in your seat nearly impossible.
